K1 Vineyard
Grape vines in their youth battle for their place on the earth. Water, soil and sun is hotly contested until they each establish their territory. Young vines can often be overly ambitious and unbalanced, but as they come of age, their canopies fill out, bunches become consistent and vineyard characters become more distinct.
The K1 vineyard is home to one of the oldest plantings of Gruner in the country, and whilst 2008 may seem recent, these are old vines in an Australian Gruner context.

The Vineyard
There's no direct route to the Lansdowne Vineyards. No matter how you approach it, you will need to tackle some of the most rugged and picturesque parts of the hills. As you get closer to Forreston, the landscape opens up, and you are welcomed to a countryside of rolling hills, orchards, and vineyards.
You would be mistaken if you thought it was just another vineyard as you approach it, because it's what lies beneath that makes this vineyard unique! The vineyard has blue-black cracking clay (a high-iron-content clay), and it’s blessed with cold yet frost-free nights.
Organically farmed since 2018, certified organic from 2025.

95 points – Mike Bennie, Halliday Wine Companion
"A flavoursome yet fresh version of chardonnay. Quite a notable slash of sweet nougat, peanut brittle and cinnamon toast but all the hallmark stone fruits, ginger tea, apple and green melon happening in and around that. It feels medium weight but then quite gossamer in texture, too. Frisky acidity with a saline bent works a treat for extra detail and finesse, plus general brightness. Gently palate staining, too. Really beautiful, balanced and full of charisma."
About the wine
This wine is mesmerising! The steepest and highest part of our vineyard is showing like the first growth that it is. It glistens in the glass like a well-cut yellow diamond. The aromas of short bread, kiwi fruit and guava almost reach out of the glass and grab you, almost cartoon-like. When I close my eyes, I find myself floating, like Yogi-Bear smelling pavlova in a picnic basket in his sleep. The palate flavours follow through and keep you floating. Biscuity, creamy, citrus, key-lime pie flavours - all leaving you delighted and refreshed. Drink 2033+.

Visually bright, it glistens like dark rose diamond.
Passionfruit and punchy initially, then it opens to strawberries, vanilla cream, and fresh herbs on the nose.

The Winemaking
The grapes for this rosé are grown with the intention of making a rosé. Hand-made at the CRFT Carey Gully winery. Short cold-soak then pressed and wild fermented cool and slow in stainless steel on full solids. Lees stirring for texture and mouthfeel. Full wild malo-lactic fermentation. Vegan friendly.
The Vineyard
Situated on the corner of Wild Street and South Terrace on the slopes of Williamstown, the Wild South Vineyard is a very Australian scene. The old gum trees, rolling hills and the craggy bushland of the neighbouring Hale Conservation Park make you feel like one of McCloud’s Daughters are going to canter over the hill… on a brumby. The soil is visually spectacular too! The mica in the soil makes it sparkle in the sunlight.
Our Mencía grapes are grown by Matthew Rohrlach and his family in Williamstown (it’s also the home of our old-vine Shiraz). The vineyard is located on the southern fringe of the Barossa Valley, just a couple kilometres from the boundary of the Adelaide Hills wine region.
The Wild South Vineyard has fully converted to organic and regenerative farming practices since 2021 and the wine is now fully certified organic, including EU certified organic status, from 2025.

The Wine
The slight copper hue gives a hint of the Blanc de Noir style - a white wine made from red grapes. The nose of rose water and honeysuckle leads to a rich palate showing flavours of apricot and quince with an almond/marzipan finish. The palate is super textural and complex. A great late-night wine. 12.0% alc/vol.

95 points - Mike Bennie for Halliday Wine Companion :
”From the CRFT estate, certified organic vineyard, this is a single-vineyard, whole bunch and direct-pressed rosé wine. It is wild fermented and rested in barrel before bottling. Oh, and it's outstanding. A truly savoury, bone-dry, textural and compelling example of the rosé idiom, scented with potpourri, rosehip tea, almond and hazelnut. The palate is similarly set, quite distinctly nutty, gently spicy, a chew to texture and a blood orange riff in the bright finish, accompanied by a trail of briny minerality. Complex and very delicious. Proper stuff.“
The Wine
Bright and white with a slight copper hue that gives a subtle nod to the red Pinot Noir grape. Rose-water, orange blossom and guava light-up the nose! The palate has a mid-palate viscosity with flavours of musk lollies and a refreshing citrus finish.
NASAA Certified Organic

Arranmore Vineyard
If there is one reason why we tough-out the cold climate at Arranmore, well this vineyard is it! Being an East / South facing slope on top off a breezy hill, it can feel relentlessly cold. When we drive out the driveway it feels like anywhere in SA is warmer than us, and that's probably the truth.

The Wine
There is something about our vineyard. A spark. A prickle of static, something almost electric! The vineyard is dry-grown, and the roots need to go deep into the soil in search of water, touching the ironstone that lies deep below the vineyard.
The wine is a bright, deep, dense red. The aromas of plums, musk lollies, and other sweet spices all pop in different directions as they hit your nose. There is a spark of flint, like two rocks impacting each other with great force. The palate is savoury, soft and smooth with a little tenseness, like ironstone being released from the glass.

About the wine
Yields at Fraser Park are an enigma. If you count the bunches, you would think it has a nice but light crop. But come harvest day, the buckets fill slowly. The small berries and bunches yield a very, very light crop. What is lacking in volume on the vine is made up for in the glass.
The wine is dark and shines like a ruby, with a nose of dark plum, orange flower and violets. The palate is concentrated and rich with soft tannins. Flavours of blackberries and vanilla approach, followed by beetroot and caraway seeds.

The Fraser Park Vineyard

Nestled on the northern side of the Stirling and Aldgate townships, the harp-shaped vineyard is surrounded by native forest and the majestic gardens of Fraser Park homestead.

The Wine
The view from the Whisson Lake slope (Mt Carey) is expansive and impressive. The vines drink in a view of half the Adelaide Hills. Like the view, the wine has a lot going on. The more you look, the more you realise is there.
Deep, dark, and bright in the glass. Flinty and matchstick in the initial opening evolve into cherry ripe, anise, and all the red fruits on the nose. The palate is plush, slick with sour cherry notes that carry through to all the red fruits, with hints of yaki nori and dark olives. The finish is mouth-filling and expansive.

Whisson Lake Vineyard
Owned and farmed by wife-and-husband duo Andrie and Mark Whisson.
The Whisson Lake vineyard is the first planting of Pinot Noir in the Adelaide Hills. Planted in 1980, it makes the vineyard officially ‘old vine’, not something you hear very often in the Adelaide Hills.
The vineyard commands an impressive east-facing slope and is the highest-altitude vineyard in South Australia. If we had a cru system in the Piccadilly Valley, the Whisson Lake Vineyard would be at the top of the list.

"A lot of sweet fruit, maraschino and kirsch specifically, though a good cut of blood orange acidity and dose of woody and minty spice. That being said, the overt fruitiness is a thing here, so a bouncy and buoyant pinot noir emerges in the glass..."
About the wine
An individual! They are bright, glistening, with a sparkle in the eye. Dark and mysterious, brooding with confidence and true to who they are. 93 points - Mike Bennie, Halliday Wine Companion:
”Wild-fermented mencia from Vine Vale. What a thing! A really delicious red, lipsmacking with its ripeish raspberry, sour cherry, cola and cranberry flourishes and neatly tied together with malty wood elements, pepper and minty herbal notes. Sloshes nicely in the palate, a supple flow through a long finish, tidied up just a touch with some powdery, gummy tannins. Really easy to like this.”
The Wine
The colour deep and dark with a purple hue that flirts with your eyes. The nose of dark cherry, tea leaves, coconut and hints of dried herbs with a savoury tone. It has a fresh and lively palate with red fruit and plush tannins. Smooth and delicious.

95 points - Mike Bennie, HWC :
“From vines planted in 1972, located in the southern realms of the Barossa Valley, not far off Adelaide Hills. Wild fermented. A beautiful, pure, soft red wine of medium-bodied weight, succulent tannins, pleasing, woody spice and distinct black plum, blackcurrant and black olive fruit character. While quite meaty and warm overall, the wine finds good shape from the rivulets of silty tannin and bolstering from an almost amaro-herb-laced acid profile. It swishes around the palate beautifully, silken and somewhat rich but with elevated, pure-feeling freshness underlying. Modern Barossa, perhaps, but classic enough, too. Stellar.”
Old Vine Shiraz
Planted in 1972, these vines are officially classified as Barossa Old Vines under the charter rules. That classification is for vines 35 years or older – “Their worthiness has been proven over many vintages, consistently producing the highest quality fruit for Barossa Wines of distinction and longevity”.
The Wine
Organically grown and made. This wine is a playful journey as it opens in the glass. Every sip offers more! Just as you think you put your finger on a flavour, a new flavour or aroma appears. Meaty and spicy at first, it opens to dense dark berries, and cardamom. This evolves into an orange peel white pepper moment. The mouthfeel is velvety, charred with dark chocolate-coated oranges. The tannins are layered elegant and rich.
Alc 14.5%. Drink now or carefully cellar to 2033+. Suggested serving temperature 15-17C.

93 points - Stuart Knox, The Real Review :
“Opaque from core to rim. Full and richly scented with ripe blueberry, ferrous and mocha tones that are mirrored on the palate. A lot of intensity and depth here with firm sandy tannins ensuring drive and focus to the palate. What stands out here though is that while there's ample intensity and power, it still has a vitality that brings you back for more.”
Real Review #6 of 31 - 2022 Shiraz from South Australia
Old Vine Shiraz
Planted in 1972, these vines are officially classified as Barossa Old Vines under the charter rules. That classification is for vines 35 years or older – “Their worthiness has been proven over many vintages, consistently producing the highest quality fruit for Barossa Wines of distinction and longevity”.

Benefits from a little time to breathe upon opening.

Suggested serving temperature 15-17C.

About the wine
It glistens in the glass like an Australian green sapphire. Citrus blossoms, lime and lime leaf initially, then in true Gruner style, the background flavours of white pepper and fennel seeds light-up! The palate shows slate like minerality and is rich and full with a powdery / crunchy, savory / sweet texture like a green papaya. 12.5% alc/vol
Cellaring
Enjoy at release or drink/cellar until 2030+.
Winemaking
Made by Candice and Frew at the CRFT winery in Carey Gully. Whole-bunch pressed to tank, then transferred to older seasoned (neutral) French barriques for barrel fermentation on full solids. 100% wild yeast ferment. Full wild MLF and regular lees stirring. Around 2 months in barrel. Vegan friendly.
Estate-owned, managed and farmed, the 5-acre Arranmore Vineyard has been farmed organically since Frewin & Candice took ownership in January 2016. NASAA Certified Organic since February 2019.
Location: Carey Gully – Peramangk Country – Adelaide Hills
Elevation: 550 meters
Aspect: East facing
Planted: Grafted on 22yo vines, winter 2017. Cuttings from Geoff Hardy’s K1 vineyard Grüner.
Clone: Elite
Soil: Dark loam topsoil over clay subsoil, with shale and ironstone bedrock.
