CRFT 2024 Pinot Noir – Arranmore Vineyard (Certified Organic)

CAREY GULLY - PICCADILLY VALLEY - ADELAIDE HILLS

95 points - Mike Bennie, Halliday Wine Companion.
There's quite a bit of richness to this wine but it tucks it all in neatly and tidily. Dark, stewed cherries meet tang of cranberry with dusty spice, earthy herbal notes and some truffle/mushroom characters, too. There are lots of layers to the wine, a lip-smacking satisfaction in its generosity. That being said, even, balanced, fine tuned. A sense of pedigree.”

The Wine
There is something about our vineyard. A spark. A prickle of static, something almost electric! The aromas don't just line up to be sniffed, they hit your nose and multiply, like a chain reaction.
The wine is a bright velvety red. The aromas of plum, clove, and other sweet spices all pop in different directions as they hit your nose. There’s a spark of flint, like two rocks impacting each other with great force. The palate is savoury, soft and smooth with a little metallic tenseness.
2024 was a very low yielding and dry year and the vineyard was dry grown. The roots needed to go deep into soil in search of water. Is the ironstone that sits deep below the vineyard, now being released the glass?.

The Winemaking
Made by Candice and Frew at the CRFT winery in Carey Gully. Hand-picked then cold-soaked followed by wild fermentation in an open-top tank with 25% whole bunch. Pressed to barrel once dry for wild malolactic fermentation and maturation. Occasional lees stirring. Matured for 9 months in 100% French oak, 15% new, 50% 1yo. Vegan friendly.

The Vineyard
If there is one reason why we tough-out the cold climate at Arranmore, well this vineyard is it! Being an East / South facing slope on top off a breezy hill, it can feel relentlessly cold. When we drive out the driveway it feels like anywhere in SA is warmer than us, and that's probably the truth.
Estate-owned, managed and farmed, the 5-acre Arranmore Vineyard has been farmed organically since Frewin & Candice took ownership in January 2016. NASAA Certified Organic since February 2019.
