SOLD OUT - CRFT 2022 Grüner Veltliner – The K1 Vineyard

KUITPO – ADELAIDE HILLS

The Wine
The 10th release of our Kuitpo Grüner and our winemaking style has evolved over the past decade. In the early days we fermented in stainless steel tanks using commercial yeast, without solids, malo or oak. Now we wild ferment in tank and oak, leave wild MLF to take its own path and tinker less – it’s the textural style of Grüner that we love.

A nose of citrus and floral notes with honeydew melon and peach. The palate is textural with fine acid, white pepper, lime and pear.

Drink 2022 to 2030+
Serving temp 9-11℃, cooler in warm weather.
Alcohol - 13.5% alc/vol
Vegan Friendly

Winemaking
Handmade at CRFT winery in Carey Gully.
100% Kuitpo Grüner Veltliner harvested on 1 April, 2022.
Whole-bunch pressed to tank to begin full solids wild ferment.
Part way through ferment a third of the batch was transferred into oak for full solids wild fermentation in older seasoned (neutral) French barriques. The balance was wild fermented on full solids in tank.
100% wild yeast ferment. Partial wild MLF. Occasional lees stirring. Twelve weeks in oak.
Bottled July 2022.

Reviews and Scores

95 POINTS - HUON HOOKE (THE REAL REVIEW)

93 POINTS - TONY LOVE (HALLIDAY WINE COMPANION)

One of 3 Grüners in the CRFT collection, somewhat tropical in its aromatics, though with telling varietal white pepper notes. Plenty of mixed spice in there as well, seasoning the ripe fruit flavours within - suggestions of mango and peach, with lovely sticky tannins in the finish. Most distinctive.”

The Wine

A style shift for 2020, this release bringing a richer and more complex style. Mango, peach and apricot, with ripe white pear and black pepper. Hugely textural and concentrated, gorgeous star anise spice lift on the palate with a mangosteen and apricot finish.

Drinking beautifully at release and will continue to develop with bottle age.

Cellar 5 to 8 years.
Serving temp 9-11C

Alcohol - 13.5% alc/vol
Sugar/GF - Dry/<0.1g/L
Release date - October 23rd 2020

Reviews and Scores

91 POINTS - MIKE BENNIE, THE WINE FRONT
”CRFT, they who dislike vowels, are somewhat of a gruner specialist, though I’m not pigeonholing, they just seem to do really well with it and do a lot more than most with it.
True to ‘classic gruner’, if that’s a thing, this is very well expressed in this wine with root vegetable scents and flavours, tonic water and lime characters, a ripple of limey acidity, just under medium weight, good texture, excellent length. Lots of charm and interest.”

The Wine

The nose shows pineapple, a subtle flinty note, then layers of white peach with white pepper spice. The palate has the most minerality of the three Grüners, with a direct acid line and fresh nectarine finish.
Drinking beautifully at release and will continue to develop with bottle age.
Cellar 5 years. Possibly beyond.
Serving temp 9-11C, serve cooler in hot weather.
Style – Dry and textural
Alcohol – 13.5% alc/vol
Sugar/GF – Dry/<0.1g/L
RRP – $31
Release – 7th October 2021

Hand-made at CRFT winery in Carey Gully.
Harvested 19th March 2021. Hand-picked.

Both batches then blended together for wild fermentation on full solids.
Fermented cool and slow in stainless steel. Part way through tank fermentation a portion was transferred to older neutral French oak for barrel fermentation followed by time on lees, with the aim to build texture and complexity without picking up oak flavour.
Occasional lees stirring in tank and oak, with partial wild malo-lactic fermentation.
Bottled July 2021. Vegan friendly.

SOLD OUT - CRFT 2019 Grüner Veltliner – The K1 Vineyard

Gruner-K1.jpg

The Wine

Our seventh vintage producing this lovely wine from Kuitpo. The nose loaded with grapefruit, citrus and lime leaf, along with subtle notes of just-picked dill, fresh cucumber, celery and white pepper. The palate has a minerally flinty edge and direct acid line with savoury textural notes and oodles of fresh-cut stone fruit. The anise spice character lingers on the finish.

Drinking beautifully at release and will continue to develop with bottle age. Cellar up to 8 years and possibly beyond.

Some light lees present which will settle by standing upright in the fridge, or simply drink cloudy and enjoy as is! The lees are a natural part of the winemaking process and do not impact the quality of the wine.

The Wine

Gewurztraminer ripens unevenly on the vine, which is a blessing when it comes to the winemaking. The result?... a spectrum of flavours as well as a kick of natural acidity from the less-ripe berries.

Lifted with lychee, quince and delicate citrus blossom. Grapefruit undernotes and scented rose. Fresh and light-bodied, utterly smashable, with a good whack of texture to-boot.

Drinking: Ready to drink at release, cellar to 2026.

Alcohol: 12% alc/vol
