KUITPO – ADELAIDE HILLS

Back in the early days of CRFT we released four vintages of Gewürz from 2013 to 2016 so it’s been almost a decade since it was last in our hands. Our style back then was produced with stainless steel ferment, no oak, no malo, no lees stirring – it needed bottle age to develop texture and soften its edges!

This time around we wanted to make this wine differently, drawing on our knowledge and love of producing barrel fermented, textural whites. Our aim was to build texture, layers and complexity from the beginning of the winemaking process, but still honouring the fresh bright style we love - and we're very pleased with the result... it's also been a whole lot of fun having it back in the winery!

Wine
Lifted and aromatic on the nose, you’re immediately greeted with the unmistakable characteristics of this variety – lychee, passionfruit, musk, rosewater. There’s ginger, too and a touch of honey in the mix, with subtle background apricot and spice.

On the palate it’s weighty up front with creamy layers, the fine phenolics all carried by the fresh zingy acidity. The finish is pleasingly dry, leaving you ready for another sip.

Serve well chilled (6-10C) for the best experience.
Drinking nicely at release or give it some cellar time to 2030.

Winemaking
Made by Candice and Frew at the CRFT winery in Carey Gully.
Harvested on the 17th Feb 2025.
Pressed to tank to begin wild fermentation then transferred to older (neutral) French barriques for barrel fermentation on full solids. Partial wild MLF with regular lees stirring while in barrel. Approx. 6 weeks in oak followed by bottling in May 2025.
