CRFT 2023 Grüner Veltliner – The K1 Vineyard

A$32.00

KUITPO – ADELAIDE HILLS

95 Points – New Goodwin MW for jamessuckling.com :
Ironstone, sandstone and orange loam, rocky and flinty and pitched at circa 320 meters. An iridescent mid-yellow, flecked with green. Aromas of baked quince, white pepper, key lime pie, yellow plum and roasted asparagus, with the brothy breadth of extended lees handling, barrel fermentation and partial malolactic apparent, yet serving textural authority over richness alone. This is a mid-weighted, powerful wine of immense personality, a cuvee that grows in stature each time I am fortunate enough to experience it. More Wachau of feel. Drink or hold.“

The Wine
Grape vines in their youth battle for their place on the earth. Water, soil and sun is hotly contested until they each establish their territory. Young vines can often be overly ambitious and unbalanced, but as come of age, their canopies fill out, bunches become consistent and vineyard flavour becomes more distinct.

The K1 vineyard is home to one of the oldest plantings of Grüner In the country, whilst 2008 may seem recent, these are old vines In an Australian Grüner context.

The wine has a confidence, strength and power that only comes from wine grown from a well establish vineyard.

The colour is bright green with a touch of shiny gold.

Limes, nectar and floral honey on the nose lead to a full rich palate of vanilla, short bread and the white bit of a strawberry.
