CAREY GULLY – PICCADILLY VALLEY – ADELAIDE HILLS

93 points - Mike Bennie, Halliday Wine Companion :
From the CRFT estate vineyard. Wild fermented. A light, trembling expression of grüner with a bright, citrus-driven profile accompanied by faint radish notes and tonic water, a lift of white balsamic giving energy and piquancy. Very tangy, quite edgy, a wilder streak in this wine, but drinkability is all there and a sense of vibrancy is writ large. Texture is light on, a touch slippery then peaky with talc-like pucker and tangy-drying touches of that minerally, white balsamic zing. Interesting wine, left of centre in a way, but prosecuting its case well.

The Wine
If there is one reason why we tough-out the cold climate at Arranmore, well this is it! Being an East / South facing slope on top off a breezy hill it can feel relentlessly cold. When we drive out the driveway it feels like anywhere in SA is warmer than us, and that's probably the truth.

They say good art is the perfect combination of paint and pain. As with good wine, a little bit of suffering is character building. And, well, there's plenty of character to unpack from this green bottle of delights!

In the glass it glistens like an emerald. The nose greets you with South East Asian flavours of kafir lime, coriander and mangosteen.

The palate shows wet slate minerality like a signature of our Domaine. The palate is rich and full with a powdery / crunchy, savory / sweet texture like a green papaya.

Drink 2023 to 2028.
Serve 9-11C, cooler in warm weather.
