Geoff Hardy grows our K1 Vineyard Grüner Veltliner from his beautiful property at Kuitpo, Adelaide Hills.

Aspect:           North West facing

Row orientation:  East-West

Harvest:          18th March 2018

Tonnes:           1.5 T

Soil: Rocky, flinty ground with ironstone and sandstone, and orange clay loam.

The Winemaking               

Hand-made by Candice & Frewin at their small winery in Carey Gully.

100% Adelaide Hills Grüner Veltliner, hand-picked in the cool morning.

Short period of skin-contact followed by wild fermentation on full solids. Fermented in stainless steel and unoaked.

Some light lees stirring prior to settling in tank.

Unfined, unfiltered, vegan. Some light lees present.

Bottled July 2018, 92 dozen produced.

The Wine                                 

Fresh green apple with the lift of spring flowers and zingy citrus notes of lemon and lime-leaf. The palate is tight with grapefruit flavours and peppery tannins, but swept with a mouth-coating textural richness. Lingers with white peach and fennel seed spice. 

Drinking:   Ready to drink on release, cellar for up to 10 years. Possibly longer.

Alcohol:    13.5 % alc/vol

Sugar/GF:   Dry / GF <0.1g/L

Brothers Peter and Mark Saturno and Vineyard Manager Dino Cotsaris grow our Longview Vineyard Grüner Veltliner at Macclesfield, Adelaide Hills.

Site location: Macclesfield – Adelaide Hills

Elevation: 300 to 320m

Slope: South facing steep slope

Planted: 2011 on own roots

Clones: Iby, HHW A1-2, HHW A1-3

Rows: 30-45

Harvest: 6th March 2018

Tonnes: 2.3T

Soil: Rocky, scattered with ironstone and quartz. Fine silt and sandy loam topsoil, dense clay and loam subsoil.

 

The Winemaking

The Wine                                 

Ripe white pear and white nectarine, with the perfumed lift of sweet-blossom nectar. Textural with mouth-coating oiliness, yet crisp with fresh acidity. Fresh quince and anise spice in abundance, this wine just goes on and on.

Drinking: Ready to drink on release, cellar for up to 10 years. Possibly longer.

Alcohol: 13.5 % alc/vol

Sugar/GF: Dry / GF <0.1g/L
